On November 21, the UK Agri-Tech Centre hosted a delegation from the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), including the UK’s agri-food attachés operating in 16 international markets. Representatives from Innovate UK and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) also participated in the visit.
The event took place at the South West Dairy Development Centre (SWDDC), one of the UK Agri-Tech Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities. This centre offers a cutting-edge environment for developing, testing and showcasing innovative technologies and practices aimed at sustainable, efficient and welfare-focused milk production.
Joining the event were UK agri-tech companies Oxi-Tech Solutions, Earth Rover and Oasthouse Ventures. These companies highlighted their groundbreaking innovations and shared how support from the UK Agri-Tech Centre and the broader ecosystem has driven their growth and enabled them to explore opportunities in global markets.
The UK’s agri-food and drink attachés are a main point of connection for the nation’s diplomatic missions, working to break down barriers to trade and develop networks in target markets. The role of an agri-food attaché is to broaden market access, break down barriers and drive export growth in priority export markets through in-country engagement.
James Kayam, International Business Development Manager at the UK Agri-Tech Centre, said:
“Hosting DEFRA’s agri-food attachés at one of our development facilities has been an invaluable opportunity. It’s not just about showcasing the UK Agri-Tech Centre’s capabilities but also highlighting the transformative work of companies like Oxi-Tech Solutions, Earth Rover and Oasthouse Ventures. With the support of the UK Agri-Tech Centre and wider ecosystem, including Innovate UK and the Department for Business and Trade, these companies are addressing critical agricultural challenges such as climate change, labour shortages and disease pressures.
We look forward to strengthening our collaboration with agri-food attachés worldwide to drive global agricultural innovation and sustainability.”
Through its collaboration with the agri-food attaché network, the UK Agri-Tech Centre gains valuable insights into international markets. This network enhances its ability to showcase UK capabilities, stay informed on global trends and regulations, and position the UK agri-tech sector as a world-class provider of innovative solutions.
